Military Ethics and Its Contemporary Application to the Rescue Professions

Abstract

Father Joseph M. Bocheński has included in his wide range of interests contemplations regarding military ethics, for one thing, which he has characterized indicating its essence on the basis of the theory of virtues in particular. His book De virtute militari constitutes a kind of an ethical guide-post for all who are professionally related to the military domain.
Taking into consideration the technological development resulting in the modification of contemporary arcraft, it seems that many of the features and proficiencies that should characterize a “conventional soldier”, have been observed among the rescue professionalists as well. The specificity of those professions results in the frequent exposition of life and health to danger during routine safety operations carried out by the rescuers. According to the classical theory, the above mentioned activities will be successful provided that their performers achieve appropriate virtues and proficiencies, and most of all that they practice and develop their profession with passion.
